Introducing Project Pocket

A gift for retro gamers — and, honestly, a gift to myself.

A fully working theme built for the R4wood flashcart, and an interactive site that lets anyone — even without the hardware — feel the vibe.

  • Recreating the Theme's Visuals

On the site you'll find the classic Start menu, the iconic Windows 98 blue gradient, and that era's signature skeuomorphic textures and retro shadows. Tucked away on the desktop are two shortcuts, MyDS and Games — little easter eggs and quiet tributes buried in the theme.

Btw, to faithfully recreate the theme's texture, I built a mask-filter layer on the site that brings back the grainy feel of RGB pixel subpixels.

  • The Rebuilt Nintendo DS Lite Model

I rebuilt the device as a white wireframe model, so it looks like you're flipping through the official manual. You can rotate it freely, drag with two fingers, zoom in and out, re-center the screen with one tap, and even open and close the lid at any angle just like in real life — you can even "power it on," and every single button is pressable. It's fully functional. The model doesn't just work on PC; it's fully featured on mobile too — so even without a real NDS or NDS Lite on hand, you can get the complete feel of this theme.
